紀貫之(きのつらゆき) (c. 868-945)

One of the compilers of the KKS, the writer of the kana preface, and later accorded legendary status as a poet. He has the most poems in all three of the first three Imperial collections. A large personal poetry collection survives, although in a number of different versions. It may be a posthumous compilation. He is also the author of the Tosa Diary and the compiler of the Shinsen waka.
